COVID-19 UPDATES

To our patients,

As you know your care and safety and the safety of our team is our top priority.

Recommendations to dental offices are changing rapidly regarding shelter in place, social distancing and essential dental treatment. We are working hard to remain compliant with the recommendation by the American Dental Association, California Dental Association and our Governor that California dentists suspend all care other than essential and emergency treatment.

If you have any questions regarding your dental care or have urgent concerns, please call us or send a direct message through our website; we are here for you and will be seeing emergency patients.

Our phones will be answered during our normal business hours and, as always, we can be reached outside of the business hours for any emergency calls.

We are looking forward to returning to patient care and the opportunity to once again visit with our dental family of patients…we miss you all!

Thank you for being our patients!

Porcelain Veneers for Crooked Teeth

Feb 2, 2021 @ 09:43 PM — by Sharon B. Mateja, D.D.S.

porcelain veneers treatmentCrooked teeth are a common dental problem. Some people suffer from a mouth full of misaligned or crooked teeth, while others have just a few teeth that sit out of their proper position. Traditionally, orthodontics have been used to correct malocclusion problems and straighten the smile. However, some people may be candidates for a faster and more convenient solution.

Porcelain veneers address crooked teeth so that individuals can enjoy a straight and attractive smile. At her Rancho Cucamonga, CA, dental practice, Dr. Sharon B. Mateja applies veneers to conceal dental flaws and give her patients renewed confidence in the appearance of their smile.

How Do Porcelain Veneers Treat Crooked Teeth?

Before proceeding with porcelain veneers, our Rancho Cucamonga patients should have a thorough understanding of how veneers treat crooked teeth. Porcelain veneers are not an orthodontic treatment. They do not change the position of the teeth, alter the bite, or correct misalignment. Instead, porcelain veneers are cosmetic restorations that conceal crooked teeth to give the appearance of a straight and uniform smile.

Porcelain veneers treatment typically takes place over two dental appointments. At the first appointment the teeth are prepared for veneers placement and the porcelain veneers are designed. Dr. Mateja customizes the size, shape, and color of veneers so they enhance the smile while blending in with the surrounding teeth. Veneers design plans are sent to a dental laboratory where the permanent porcelain veneers are fabricated.

When veneers are complete, patients return to our office for placement. Porcelain veneers are bonded to the front surface of the teeth. Dr. Mateja lightly etches the surface of the teeth and a dental compound is used to cement the veneers to the teeth. The material is hardened with a dental light to complete the bonding process.

Once in place, porcelain veneers present a straight, white, and attractive smile, rather than one that is compromised by crooked teeth, spacing issues, or other cosmetic flaws.

Am I a Candidate for Porcelain Veneers Treatment?

Porcelain veneers address a wide range of aesthetic blemishes, so they are an ideal treatment for many of our Rancho Cucamonga patients. However, not everyone who has crooked teeth should address the problem with porcelain veneers.

Advanced malocclusion problems make it difficult to clean the teeth properly, compromise oral functions, and increase the risk of dental complications. Because of this, porcelain veneers are suitable for minor to moderately crooked teeth, while orthodontic treatment is more appropriate for serious misalignment issues.

How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?

Porcelain veneers are surprisingly durable. As long as patients practice good oral hygiene habits and care for their veneers properly, they can last 10 years or more. Although porcelain veneers will eventually wear down, they can easily be replaced when they have worn out or become damaged, so that patients can continue to enjoy the aesthetic benefits of these dental restorations.
